Enhancing Beauty While Preserving the Natural Look
New techniques are more effective with longer-lasting results
It is no coincidence that an artistic interest in sculpting faces in clay preceded this physician’s choice of profession.
After rigorous medical training at the famed Mayo Clinic and extensive surgical training, Alexis Lane, M.D., earned board certification in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery as well as in ear, nose and throat surgery.
“My primary goal is to help those who desire quality and artistry in their surgical outcome,” Dr. Lane explained. “I believe society’s emphasis on appearance is not mere vanity because one’s appearance reflects a healthy, confident attitude.”
Many of Dr. Lane’s patients choose plastic surgical intervention for the purpose of combining a youthful appearance with professional competitiveness. “Career, life and relationship changes are common motivations for consultation with me,” she said. “After cosmetic surgery, one of my patients remarked, ‘when you combine the knowledge of age and experience with a face that looks 15 years younger, the doors open and opportunities come your way.’”
In her practice at the Santa Cruz Medical Clinic, Dr. Lane has also found that many patients’ primary interest is in improving the appearance of their nose and their airway through septorhinoplasty (nasal reconstruction). “This is my favorite procedure because every nose is truly unique,” she remarked. “I can create a beautiful nose while improving the nasal airway at the same time. Beauty and function go hand in hand!”
In seven years as both an ENT and facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Lane has seen a wide variety of significant facial defects and traumatic injuries that have given her a broad experience to draw from. Facial reconstructive surgery employs multiple techniques, from reconstruction of facial defects due to cancer removal to reshaping and plating of facial bones after traumatic injuries and fractures. Dr. Lane is very skilled in and well acquainted with these repairs.
“Today’s surgical techniques and technology have transformed cosmetic and reconstructive surgery,” she explained. “Not only are the results much more satisfying and longer lasting, but healing is more rapid and patients can return to their daily lives in a timely fashion.” Such procedures are often performed under light sedation in the comfortable and caring environment of the Sutter Maternity and Surgery Center.
Dr. Lane stressed that communication and trust, along with patient satisfaction, are the keys to a successful outcome. “I enjoy working with patients to combine their vision of the desired results with mine,” she said. “My goal is to enhance my patient’s beauty while preserving their unique and natural look. I take my time because a fine work of art can never be rushed.”
Dr. Lane’s experience encompasses extensive training in and teaching of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery and ear, nose and throat surgery. A lifelong artist with an eye for fine detail, she is a painter, sculptor and digital photographer. She specializes in nasal surgery/septorhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, facelift, browlift, liposculpture of the face and neck, facial reconstruction, otoplasty for prominent ears, C02 laser resurfacing of the face, laser treatment of red and pigmented marks, scar revision, BOTOX, collagen, lip and facial implants.
